for K-5 Educators
The Naturalists' Notebook enriches teachers' understanding of plant life of the Piedmont and around the world. Lesson plans designed by teachers to accompany each issue integrate plant science, art, and writing. (note: PDF files require Adobe Reader.)

Formal Programs
The education program for adults includes lectures, demonstrations, workshops, volunteer education meetings, and group travel. Programs are offered from September through April. A calendar of events is published in January and September. Events calendar

Informal Learning
Plant nameplates, labels describing horticultural techniques, informative brochures, and signage are located in the garden. Specialty plant lists are available upon request. Staff members are often available in the garden to answer questions during regular working hours.

Volunteer Continuing Education
Volunteers with the educational programs for young people are invited to participate in regularly scheduled educational opportunities designed to help them gain knowledge about plants that they can share with students. Volunteers who assist with the gardens work closely with staff members to learn and apply horticultural techniques.

Young People

School Programs
Seasonally oriented, science-based programs are offered from September through May. Knowledgeable volunteers lead activities for small groups of students in kindergarten through high school. Space is limited. Registration is taken once a year, in early August.

Summer Program
The Young Naturalists program is offered in June for students in grades one through five. Space is limited. Call the education office for registration information: 336.758.3485.

Internships
Paid and volunteer internships are available for home school, high school, and college students.
